femininity
is femininity a social construct? yes. does it make sort of make sense even though it's a social construct? yes.
femininity is generally a set of attributes that is associated with a woman, it is of course, a cultural norm, but somehow it makes sense. every woman need not display femininity and men can also be open about their femininity.
okay, enough justifying the topic of discussion for today.
i want to talk about people embracing their feminine sides. as children, we have certain interests that may align with what we consider feminine interests, like putting make up on, painting your nails or even general skincare. instead of considering these attributes as a normal part of one's personality, we considered them a form of femininty or weakness.
i don't think it was me who considered it a form of weakness, it was the general perception of the crowd i was around. femininity is generally associated with fragility. women (and men) feel the need to conform to these norms of society, so we rewire ourselves to fit the status quo and in the process, lose touch with our feminine sides.
a decade ago, doing anything feminine was a form of weakness, a sign that you wouldn't be accepted in the real, "harsh" world. it is now that we've grown up, we realize that it's the world which says that it's weak to display feminity, masculinity is the standard and if we don't adhere we're weak.
of course this is a known fact, but we don't really think about it. once you do, even for a minute, it will boggle your mind because we've settled completely into this bubble that it's hard for us to see anything beyond what we're taught.
things have gotten to the point where even women forget that it's okay to display feminine traits, instead they think that they'll be stereotyped as a "girly girl". In this constant race of "defeating" men, we completely change ourselves. women are taught to debauch their femininity in pursuit of power and social acceptance. we’ve glorified and rewarded only masculine qualities and demeaned feminine qualities for decades.
to this topic, there is no conclusion that I can give you, at all, it's just food for thought.
Beautifully explained in brief by such a young soul!! Amazing.
